Heat Pump Grants Scotland: for Homeowners & Private Tenants

We love helping people in Scotland access free grants & funding for air source heat pumps. The government needs to reduce carbon emissions & is also looking to eradicate fuel poverty. As a result, several schemes are available that either reduce the cost of installing a heat pump or can even pay for the installation in full. There has never been a better time for people on Scotland to consider fitting a heat pump!

As part of our service, we will help establish which grants you are eligible for. Our aim is to help you make the move to greener heating affordable, whatever your circumstances.

If you live in Scotland, please get in touch for a quick chat & to arrange a free home survey.

Home Energy Scotland Heat Pump Grants

Who is eligible?

You can apply for a Home Energy Scotland grant if:

Your property is in Scotland

You are a homeowner living in the home you own.

If you are building your own home, you can use the grant and loan for home renewables or energy storage systems. Other improvements aren’t available if it’s a self-build.

How much is the grant?

You can receive a FREE grant for up to £7,500 for installing new heat pumps, rising to £9,000 for households that qualify for the rural uplift. This does not need to be repaid.

If the heat pump costs more than the grant amount, the remainder can be taken up as an optional interest-free loan from Home Energy Scotland.

ECO-4 Heat Pump Grants

Who is eligible for ECO4?

To qualify for an ECO4 grant in Scotland, there are certain criteria you need to meet:

If you own a home, it needs to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G and someone needs to be receiving one of the benefits listed here.

If you are a private tenant, you may also be eligible for a grant. Firstly, your home must have an EPC rating of E, F or G. Secondly, someone in the house needs to be in receipt of one of the benefits listed. Your landlord also needs to give permission for any improvements.

Even if you don’t qualify for ECO4, we will explore other options for grants & funding. Our aim is always to help you go green for free (or as little personal investment as possible).

How much is the grant?

Rather than getting a grant for one improvement, such as a heat pump, ECO4 is designed to improve the energy efficiency of your home in general. For example, a certain standard of insulation is required to get a grant for a free heat pump. The good news is that ECO4 could pay for ALL upgrades deemed necessary. This could include an air source heat pump, solar panels, insulation etc!

Benefits To Qualify For ECO4:

  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Pension Guarantee Credit
  • Pension Savings Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Child Benefit
  • Housing Benefit

ECO4-Flex Grants For Heat Pumps

Who is eligible?

To qualify for an ECO4-Flex grant in Scotland, there are certain criteria you need to meet:

You own or privately rent a home in Scotland with an EPC rating in band D, E, F or G and one of the following:

The combined income of the household is below £31,000 or

Someone in the household has a severe or long-term health condition that is adversely affected by living in a cold home or

Your home qualifies for some other reason relating to income and/or health.

How much is the grant?

Similar to ECO4, ECO-Flex is designed to improve the overall energy efficiency of your home. For example, a certain standard of insulation is required. The good news is that ECO4 could pay for ALL upgrades deemed necessary. This could include an air source heat pump, solar panels, insulation etc!

Qualifying health conditions

  • A cardiovascular condition such as angina, ischemic heart disease or cerebrovascular disease.
  • A respiratory illness, such as asthma, COPD or emphysema.
  • Limited mobility (e.g. arthritis)
  • Autoimmune and immunodeficiency diseases, such as lupus, MS, diabetes, or HIV.
